In Learning for Life (Key Stage 2), pupils are taught through the pre formal, semi formal or formal curriculum dependent upon their needs. The formal curriculum is an adapted and modified National Curriculum which is accessible, meaningful and relevant to all pupils. Every lesson is planned to be challenging, enjoyable and successful for each pupil and there are many opportunities for practical hands-on activities and visits to ensure that learning is fun!

Pupils are divided into class groups dependent upon their learning style which provides them with continuity and a nurturing environment. Most subjects are taught by class teachers in the classroom although pupils are taught by Specialist teachers in Drama, Art, Music and Forest School. There are opportunities for pupils to integrate across the classes throughout the week.  

Learning for Life teachers have worked to ensure that the curriculum is balanced and broadly based and promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of our pupils. We believe it is important that we begin to prepare our pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. Where possible pupils will be offered a range of practical experiences that will enhance their learning and help them to achieve their full potential.

All classes in Learning for Life, follow the same topic area regardless of the curriculum they are using. The topics run on a four year rolling programme and can be seen below.
