Beneath The Surface

Pupils from Key Stages 3 and 4 were involved in workshops led by professional dancers Mark Anderson and Mark Worth. Over a period of about 6 months, pupils produced choreographed dances that tell the story of one young person's journey into the unknown depths of cyber bullying and grooming. The film deals with a range of issues and problems that young people could be drawn into when they unwittingly give out personal information to unknown people.
A small number of students were given the opportunity to film on location for 2 days. Bunkers Hill Swimming Pool and the Riverside in Stratford kindly let us use their facilities free of charge. This generosity allowed us to add another dimension to the film and gave the students an insight into how a film is made.
It is so important that all young people understand the underlying dangers of using the internet and that they know how to stay safe when online. This idea was the starting point for the whole project.

The music for the film was composed by our Music Teacher Alan Smith and our Music Technician Matt Back.

The film premiered at Stratford Picture House cinema.
