Many of you will be aware of a summer play scheme that has operated at Welcombe Hills for many years, WHASP. You may not be aware that WHASP is actually a registered charity that was established by some parents of young people who attended Welcombe Hills at the time, rather than a programme that has been funded and managed by the school. WHASP has been a fantastic provision and has provided numerous opportunities to many children and young people over the years and I know many families would pass on their thanks and gratitude to the staff who have supported it.
With the retirement of one of the original parents who established WHASP and now with the Covid-19 pandemic and all of the health & safety complexities surrounding this. I need to inform families that regrettably WHASP will not be running this summer holidays.
Over the weekend there was speculation in the media that ‘Summer Schools’ may be run by schools, but at the moment there has been no consultation from the DfE in regards to this. We currently have no plans to be open to pupils during the six week break. As the National lock down may be over during this period, there are other organizations who may be able to offer similar support as WHASP to families:
Take a Break - http://www.tabw.org.uk/
Time Out - https://www.timeoutgroupstratford.org.uk/
ileap - https://www.ileap.co.uk/
On an individual basis some Welcombe Hills staff also work privately for families (completely separate arrangement to school) providing 1:1 support. If you are interested in this type of arrangement please contact Prue Banks here at school – email@example.com
