Within the 14 – 19 curriculum our areas of focus are:
The Curriculum – taught through the ASDAN awards and qualifications - Transition Challenge, Towards Independence, Bronze award, and Life Skills qualification. Unit Awards in Food technology and Art.
Learning and Teaching
Information, Advice and Guidance.
Our aim is to support our students to become confident individuals, responsible citizens and introduce them to new activities.
Our curriculum is life skills based, with much emphasis on work related learning, providing the student’s with the opportunities to develop skills for adult life.
We encourage the young peoples’ moral development. They are encouraged to help in a wide variety of communal and charitable experiences.
Provision for students’ social development is being re-assessed. Opportunities are provided for students to socialise within school and outside in the community. Residential visits are one area being developed to encourage social development. The National Trust has provided us with the opportunity to undertake a week long residential experience, working for the Trust and looking after ourselves. This will encourage maturity, team building, life skills and social skills. If this is a successful experience then this will become the format for our future residential stays.
Students participate in college courses at Stratford upon Avon College and Moreton Morrell Agricultural College, we are building links with Kineton High School and River House School.
Students have the opportunity to take a turn in the ‘Walnut Apartment” where they learn new life skills and develop existing skills. Currently two pupils with one adult live in the flat from Monday pm to Friday am, with the focus on, cooking light lunches, cleaning the home, sewing (making aprons) and general home care. Pupils contribute £5 per week. The focus changes on an annual basis to ensure progression.
A House Point system has been introduced and has been a huge success with the students. Pupils from key stage 4 and sixth form elect prefects, vice and house captains. Students in this position are encouraged to take on some responsibility in school.
The young people are encouraged and expected to be motivated, enthusiastic, caring, responsible, friendly and kind.
