In key stage 3, pupils are taught an adapted and modified National Curriculum which is accessible, meaningful and relevant to all pupils. Every lesson is planned to be challenging, enjoyable and successful for each pupil and there are many opportunities for practical hands-on activities and visits to ensure that learning is fun!
Great emphasis is placed upon personal/social development, building self esteem, self confidence, promoting independence and being sensitive to the needs of others.
Pupils are divided into class groups providing continuity and a nurturing environment. Most subjects are taught by class teachers either in the classroom or in specialist rooms. The curriculum is presented both through broad topics and through specific subject teaching.
A house point system is operated in the Secondary Department. Pupils all enjoy gaining house points throughout the week and attending a special assembly on a Friday afternoon when the winning house for the week is announced.
Each class is represented by one or two pupils at weekly School Council Meetings.
