Foundation/Key Stage 1

Through the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception classes) and Key Stage 1 (years 1 and 2) we follow the Early Years Stage Framework. There are 6 areas of learning and development which are equally important and help provide a rounded approach to child development. These areas come under these 6 headings:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

Within our Early Years classes the areas are delivered through planned and purposeful play, with a balance of adult-led and child-led initiatives. We look at each child as individual learners who have a range of skills and experiences that they bring to the classroom and we start learning with what the children already know. Each term we have a main topic that we build our learning around, for example, The Great Outdoors, Ourselves and Under the Ground.

We deliver our curriculum in a range of areas that are available to us – our classrooms, our play grounds, the Sensory Room, the soft play area, the Hydro Pool and within the local environment. There is always a lot going on and it is ever so much fun!
