Connexions are now called 'CSWP - The Careers Guidance Company'.
What is Connexions?
Connexions are an organisation that provides advice and guidance to young people between the age of 13 and 19 and their families during transition within school and when they leave school.
If a young person has a Statement of Special Educational Needs, connexions will work with the young person until their 25th birthday.
Who is the school PA and how can I contact her?
The schools Personal Advisor at the moment is Faye Lawrence. She is usually in school 2 – 3 days a week on a Wednesday and Thursday and most Fridays and you can contact her by telephone on 07810 503796 or by email at faye.lawrence @cswp.org.uk. If she is in school she is always happy to see parents so feel free to knock at her door if she is not busy! Faye is located in the small office next to Reception. You can also make an appointment with her through the class teacher or just phone the school office.
Faye is currently on Maternity leave until February 2012. Liz Mackensie is covering her role at Welcombe Hills and is usually in school on a Friday.If you need to contact Liz please do so through the school or direvtly on 07736 112365 or email her at liz.mackensie@cswp.org.uk.
Wha is the role of the Personal Advisor in school?
The PA’s main role is to provide advice and guidance to young people in school about options available to them when they leave school, e.g. college, training etc and support families in making informed choices about the future. The PA can support with other issues and barriers that can get in the way of a smooth transition.
The PA will do group sessions to help decision making and sometimes observe young people in the classroom. The PA will also attend parent’s evenings for key stage 4 and 6th form pupils.
T e PA will write a report to replace the young persons Statement of Special Educational Needs so that they still get appropriate support in a new learning environment.
